Weymouth In Old Postcards and Photographs
Victoria Terrace & YWCA circa 1890s
This view has so much character. The legend along the bottom reads ‘YWCA Victoria Terrace also showing St. John’s Church’. The YWCA is the property nearest the camera with the pillared  entrance.  The photographer has set up his tripod in the road  attracting the attention of the two boys on the pavement one of whom appears to be delivering from the hand cart behind him. The gentleman striding out alongside them is wearing a magnificent top hat
A view from a similar position but posted in 1916. The ‘X’ just above what was The Burdon Hotel is indicating the building where the sender, an Australian soldier, is billeted. Presumably recovering from wounds after Gallipolli.
