Weymouth In Old Postcards and Photographs
Sand Castle Building circa 1910s
The sand at Weymouth has a particular quality which lends itself to modelling of a quality not found elsewhere. In this picture it appears that the children are taking part in one of the regular sandcastle building competitions, usually sponsored by a manufacturer of household products or foods. Perhaps the splendid model of a lighthouse was inspired by a visit to Portland? There was a professional Sand Modeller on many beaches and Weymouth was no exception, an example of the work produced can be viewed here.
