Burdon Hotel circa 1916
Following the disastrous Gallipolli Campaign, (April 1915 - January 1916) the surviving ANZAC  (Australia and New Zealand  Army Corps) soldiers were sent to Weymouth to recover. The Hotel Burdon was used as a Military Hospital. However when their period of rest was over they were sent to the Western Front in Flanders or Palestine.  Several locations in Weymouth, where these brave men were  living bear witness to their presence in their names. Appropriate therefore that the memorials to their sacrifice can now be seen opposite the Hotel alongside the Town’s  Cenotaph Click here to view the memorials
